Bishop Burton College            2

Bishop started the tournament against relatively straight forward opponents and dominated the game throughout, creating multiple chances. However it took a short corner to break the deadlock won by Jack Hardeman and Jack White provided the ball for Hans Cowx to score. Bishop dominated the entire game with goalie Robert Knapton having little to do. The second goal came from another short corner, a clever one-two between Jack White and Cameron Turner for Jack White to score at the near post.

Hartlepool                             0

Vs

Bishop Burton College            3

The second game saw Bishop reduced to 6 players. This however did not stop Bishop and a strong performance from the team saw them dominate the game and good work from Helen Waites providing for Adam Barton to open the scoring. Adam Barton then turned provider for Olivia Byas who tapped in from close range. The final goal was again scored by Adam Barton who had an impressive game, slotting the ball between the goalies legs.

Huddersfield New College      1

Vs

Bishop Burton College               1

The third game proved to be much tougher and Bishop had to work hard against a strong team and eventual winners. Bishop however opened the scoring from another short corner taken by Cameron Turner for Hans Cowx to score. However the Huddersfield goalkeeper then proved tough to beat denying both Cameron Turner and Hans Cowx twice with impressive saves. Huddersfield then hit back on the counter to level the game but Bishop held on for the draw.

Greenhead College                    3

Vs

Bishop Burton College            3

The final game turned out to be a very open game with both teams feeling the effect of the previous games. Bishop opened the scoring with another short corner which was again scored by Hans Cowx but Bishop were then pegged back by Greenhead but Bishop pressed on and Hans Cowx long run ended in a goal to put Bishop back in front. However Greenhead levelled the game almost immediately with Bishop falling to sleep in defence. Greenhead then went on to take the lead with Bishop tiring but with only a couple of minutes remaining, Olivia Byas found Jack Hardeman in the box who finished well from a difficult position to level the match for Bishop.

Overall Bishop impressed throughout the tournament, going unbeaten and finishing 3rd overall. Top scorer was Hans Cowx with his short corner goals proving to be a reliable source of goals for the team.

Injuries make it difficult for Bishop Burton

Huddersfield New College 6 vs. Bishop Burton College 2

Bishop Burton faced Huddersfield New College for the third time this season having beaten them twice already in previous encounters. However with a weakened team due to injuries it made the task of beating them for a third time much more difficult as they are a well-organised outfit.

Bishop Burton hit off the match and passed the ball around well but Huddersfield held their defence strong. Huddersfield then got the ball and put large amounts of pressure on the weakened Bishop defence and after a few minutes Huddersfield were ahead with Bishop Burton struggling to get in the game. Huddersfield continued to control the game and soon they were two up after a goal mouth scramble. However Bishop were always a threat on the counter attack, with Olivia Byas and Adam Barton offering good options going forward with strong support from Jack Hardeman and Jack White.

The visitors then got their first chance after Adam Barton won a short corner and from the short corner the ball eventually came to Jack White to slot in at the far post. However, before half-time Huddersfield managed to grab another goal after a mix up in the Bishop Burton defence allowing Huddersfield in to score.

The second half hit off with Bishop Burton determined to push Huddersfield and cause them problems. Bishop remained strong in defence and kept Huddersfield out with strong defensive work from Jake Finnigan, Helen Waites, Rosie Bulmer and Chris Bostwick. However Huddersfield again managed to get through and goalie Robert Knapton could not prevent them from scoring again.

This did not stop Bishop Burton though and they kept threatening on the counter and after a good run from Olivia Byas and support from Adam Barton, Bishop scored again with Adam Barton beating the keeper and putting John Gitau in to push into the goal.

However Bishop got extremely tired having been chasing the game for long periods of time and Huddersfield managed to get two goals towards the end of the match to finish with a deserved 6-2 win.

Hockey's unbeaten record is lost at Newton Rigg

Newton Rigg College 10 Bishop Burton College 3

Bishop Burton faced Newton College for the first time this season with everybody wanting to get a result against the main rivals for the Northern Counties title. Bishop travelled with a weakened side due to injuries and course commitments and therefore had to draft in last minute replacements.

Newton Rigg hit off the match and passed the ball around well, controlling possession. After a few minutes Newton Rigg were ahead with Bishop Burton struggling to get into the game. Newton Rigg continued to control the game and soon the goals started flowing and before Bishop could reorganise they found themselves out of touch being 4-0 down. Bishop then had their first chance after a good pass by Jake Finnigan to put Jack White through to take on three players and force a short corner for Bishop. From the short corner clever play between Cameron Turner and Jack White provided the first goal for Bishop at the near post for Jack White.

However Newton Rigg soon took control again and took a large lead of 7-1 at half time with the much-changed Bishop team struggling to gel.

After a disappointing first half, Bishop hit off the second half with the aim of keeping the goals down and some strong defending by Helen Waites, Rosie Bulmer, Jake Finnigan and Cameron Turner kept Bishop solid at the back. After a few minutes Bishop had a spell with the ball with Cameron Turner again impressing with some good skills and then provided the ball for Jack White to score his second of the game. Bishop continued to frustrate Newton Rigg by slowing down the play and breaking down their attacks.

Newton Rigg then broke through to score again. However Bishop again pressed forward and good work on the wing by Pete Clowes and a good touch from Chris Bostwick to put the ball into Jack White to get his hat-trick.

However a tiring Bishop continued to battle towards the end with good battling in midfield by Jess Martin, Sheree Sleney and Sophie Robson but could not prevent Newton Rigg scoring two goals late on to put the final score to 10-3 but a much better second half from Bishop.

Bishop Burton will hope that they can get a full strength team for the return game in a weeks time and gain their revenge.
